10.31.08 :: The students at the Leakie Elementary School in Southwest D.C. held their first mini-walk to support the Coalition as a part of Fannie Mae’s 21th Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon (HtH). Leakie Elementary School’s walk raise $2,000 to support the work of the Coalition. 02.14.08 ::District government officials, D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser (Ward 4), the Coalition for the Homeless and the community celebrate the opening of the new home of the La Casa Transitional Rehabilitation Program at 1131 Spring Road, NW. La Casa TRP provides temporary residential services for homeless men to help them to achieve self sufficiency.


FAMILY SERVICES PROGRAMS
Family Services provides shelter and programs that help homeless families regain stability in their lives and addresses the root cause of poverty, dysfunction, and homelessness. The program focuses on substance abuse, mental health, employment and training, housing issues, and the development and educational needs of the children.

Out of concern for this trend, the Coalition is working vigorously to get our clients the job training and other skills they need for independent living.

Many of these families find support through Coalition programs at – the transitional sites at Spring Road Family Apartments or the Valley Place Family Apartments; the Anacostia Road Apartments, available to low-income families and individuals; as well as the opportunities with the Employment Services Division.
